Biceps Tendonitis Sprains & Strains Treatment at Encino Orthopedics
Often a very painful condition, bicep tendonitis - or any bicep sprain or strain - is an inflammation of the Long Head of Biceps (LHB) tendons. People who commonly experience bicep tendonitis include regular weightlifters and those who suffer from other arm and shoulder related injuries, such as a rotator cuff tear or shoulder impingement.
Biceps tendonitis is typically felt first in the upper, front part of the shoulder. The pain in the biceps and front part of the shoulder will worsen with repeated use, as the bicep inflammation is aggravated. Other symptoms of biceps tendonitis, sprains and strains include weakness in the shoulder and/or elbow and discomfort or pain when twisting the forearm.
Treatment for bicep tendonitis can be surgical or non-surgical depending on the severity of the bicep strain and inflammation. At Encino Orthopedics Center, Dr. Reisch will assess the extent of the bicep injury and may make use of imaging technology, such as an x-ray or MRI, to determine the best course of treatment. Physical therapy is also typically necessary to restore full strength and reduce the pain associated with biceps tendonitis, and biceps strains and sprains.
